Description

Edit

Portocamiño is a small locality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino de Fisterra and Muxía routes. Its name combines porto, meaning a ford or river crossing point, with camiño, the Galician word for road or way. The toponym directly records that this was a recognised ford or crossing point on the historic Camino road network.

The locality sits in the rolling agricultural interior of the A Coruña province, where the route crosses one of the minor watercourses that drain the plateau westward. The name is one of the most explicitly Camino-related toponyms on the entire Fisterra route.
