Paradanova

Paradanova is a small locality in the municipality of A Fonsagrada, in the province of Lugo, Galicia, on the Camino Primitivo route descending toward A Fonsagrada. The name means new paradise, a place name of the same type as Hospital de Valparaíso, reflecting the relief of shelter or good terrain after difficult mountain ground.

The locality occupies the descending terrain from the Fonfría pass into the first enclosed valley of the Lugo interior, where the open mountain heath gives way to pasture, oak woodland, and the sheltered valley character typical of the Lugo province. For pilgrims, the descent into the first Galician valley after the Asturian sierra crossing is genuinely welcomed, giving the paradise name its resonance.
