Oruña de Piélagos

Oruña de Piélagos is a locality in the municipality of Piélagos, in Cantabria, situated in the Pas river valley floor on the approach to Santillana del Mar. The Piélagos valley is a broad agricultural corridor with green meadows, dairy cattle pasture, and traditional stone farmhouses on the valley slopes.

The municipality of Piélagos is one of the more densely settled rural municipalities of Cantabria, combining residential growth driven by proximity to Santander with the traditional pastoral agriculture of the Pas valley. The valley floor retains its green, open quality despite increasing urbanisation on the slopes.

For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte, the Piélagos valley section provides a gentler, more pastoral stage after the coastal clifftop and estuary crossings of the preceding days.
