Mendata

Mendata is a municipality in the province of Bizkaia in the Basque Country, occupying the hillside terrain between the interior valleys and the Oka river basin that opens toward Gernika. The municipality has a dispersed rural character with traditional caserio farmhouses distributed across the slopes above the valley.

The landscape around Mendata combines mixed woodland, pasture, and the occasional maize plot in the typical Basque Country mosaic of the Bizkaia interior. The descent from Mendata toward the Oka basin provides some of the first wide views of the Gernika plain on the Camino del Norte approach to the town.
