Description

Edit

Colindres is a municipality in Cantabria situated on the southern shore of the Asón estuary, directly adjacent to Laredo. The town has a working character connected to the fishing and maritime industry of the estuary, with a small port and traditional residential fabric along the waterfront.

The inner Asón estuary at Colindres is a significant tidal wetland, with salt marshes, mudflats, and reed beds supporting important birdlife. The estuary wetland is protected and provides a rich natural environment in contrast to the more urban character of the town’s built edge.

For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte taking the inland route around the Asón, Colindres is a waypoint on the road heading toward Bárcena de Cicero and the crossing toward Santoña.
