Description

Edit

Camplengo is a small locality in the municipality of Santillana del Mar, in Cantabria, situated on the hillside terrain above and east of the medieval town of Santillana del Mar. The settlement is one of several small hamlets in the municipality that occupy the rural pastoral slopes surrounding the historic town centre.

The surrounding landscape is the green enclosed valley and hill terrain of the Santillana municipal area, with pasture, mixed woodland, and the traditional stone farmhouses that characterise the rural Cantabrian interior. From the higher ground around Camplengo, the medieval rooftop and tower silhouette of Santillana del Mar may be visible ahead.

For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte, Camplengo is effectively part of the final approach to Santillana del Mar, one of the most celebrated historic towns on the entire Cantabrian coast route.
