Arcahueja

Arcahueja is a small locality in the municipality of Valdefresno, León, on the Camino Frances on the ascending terrain above the Porma valley toward the Alto del Portillo ridge. The settlement has a compact stone character in the hillside terrain approaching the León city outskirts.

The elevated position on the ridge approach gives views toward León on clear days, with the cathedral spires and the city skyline appearing on the horizon as the route climbs. The path here transitions from the flat valley bottom to the first gentle ascent before the final descent into the provincial capital.

For pilgrims, Arcahueja is the last small hamlet before the León suburban fringe, with the anticipation of the city beginning to build after the long plain stages.
