Description

Edit

O Amenal is a small locality in the municipality of O Pino, A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino Frances on the final morning stage between O Pedrouzo and Santiago de Compostela. The name derives from areia or ameal, meaning sandy place or sand accumulation, indicating a locality with sandy soil or a dried stream bed.

The hamlet occupies the forested terrain of the final stage, where pine and eucalyptus dominate the path corridor on the long approach to the Monte do Gozo and the Santiago urban fringe. The Aeropuerto de Santiago is nearby, and the sound of aircraft is often audible here.

For pilgrims, O Amenal is one of the final rural passages before the Camino enters the Santiago metropolitan area, the pine and eucalyptus forest providing a transitional character before the urban environment of the city.
