Colloto

Colloto is a locality in the municipality of Oviedo, in Asturias, situated on the eastern approach to the city on the main road from Gijón and Siero. The area functions as an outer urban district of the Oviedo metropolitan area, with residential and commercial development on the approach corridor into the city.

The locality represents the final urban fringe before the historic centre of Oviedo, and the cathedral spires of the Catedral de San Salvador become visible from the approach as pilgrims descend toward the city. The transition from the rural or suburban terrain of Colloto into the historic centre of Oviedo is one of the more emotionally significant moments of the Camino del Norte.

For pilgrims on both the Camino del Norte and those arriving from the Camino Primitivo, Colloto marks the last stage before the historic capital of Asturias.
