Description

Edit

Azurara is a civil parish in the municipality of Vila do Conde, in the Porto district, situated on the south bank of the Ave river directly across from the town of Vila do Conde. The two settlements face each other across the river mouth, connected by bridge, and share a long history rooted in fishing and maritime commerce.

The Ave river mouth here was an important navigational and commercial point in the medieval and early modern periods. Azurara retains a traditional character in its older waterfront streets. For pilgrims on the Camino Português, the Ave river crossing at this point is a significant moment on the coastal route.
