Descripción
Fontearcuda is a small locality in the province of Lugo, Galicia, on the Camino Frances in the terrain approaching Sarria. The name combines fonte, spring or fountain, with arcuda, possibly from arco, arch, suggesting a naturally arching spring or a curved water feature that gave the site its name.
The hamlet has a compact stone character in the enclosed Galician valley landscape, with oak and chestnut woodland on the surrounding slopes. The spring name reflects the importance of reliable water sources in the rural Galician landscape.
For pilgrims, Fontearcuda is a passage point on the approach to Sarria, the valley terrain providing a pleasant enclosed corridor before the town.
