Descripción
Barbadelo is a locality in the municipality of Sarria, Lugo, Galicia, on the Camino Frances west of Sarria. The village is notable for the church of Santiago de Barbadelo, a twelfth-century Romanesque building that is one of the better-preserved examples of early Romanesque ecclesiastical architecture on the Galician section of the Camino Frances.
The church retains its Romanesque portal with carved decoration and the simple stone nave and apse typical of the local Romanesque school. It is listed as a World Heritage Site as part of the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage routes designation.
The surrounding valley landscape is the enclosed green farmland and oak woodland of the Sarria corridor, with traditional Galician stone farmhouses and the pleasant rural character that defines this stage.
