Descripción
Albergaria-a-Nova is a small locality in the municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha, in the Aveiro district. Its name, meaning ‘the new inn,’ places it in direct toponymic relationship with Albergaria-a-Velha (‘the old inn’) nearby, together suggesting that a second or replacement waystation establishment was founded at this location to serve travelers on the road north.
The settlement is more modest than its older counterpart, without the same historic town center, and functions today as a quiet residential locality in the rural fringe of the Albergaria municipality. The landscape around it reflects the broader character of this part of the Aveiro district: low forested hills, eucalyptus plantations, and scattered agricultural plots.
On the Camino Português, Albergaria-a-Nova represents one of the many named points on the route that carry historical meaning embedded in their names but offer limited visible monuments today.
